NEWCASTLE EYE MOVE FOR £15M-RATED ARSENAL STAR

Newly promoted Newcastle United will look to bolster their defensive options by attempting to sign Arsenal left back Kieran Gibbs, according to Football London.
Gibbs only made 10 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last campaign and with the imminent arrival of Sead Kolasinac from Schalke, the full back looks set to be third choice left back, meaning he’s more than likely heading out of the Emirates after a 13-year spell with the club.
The 27-year-old is a target for a number of Premier League sides including West Brom whose boss Tony Pulis is apparently a big fan of the full-back but the Magpies look favourites to land the England international and are not put off by the reported £15m asking fee.
Rafa Benitez looks keen to securing Gibbs’ signature as he attempts to re-establish Newcastle as a Premier League side once again after snatching the title on the final day of the season in the Championship.

Manchester United icon Ryan Giggs believes Michael Carrick will play key role at Old Trafford next season

Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs believes Michael Carrick has an important part to play for Jose Mourinho's side next season.
The ex-England midfielder, who turns 36 next month, has just signed a year-long extension to the contract which was due to expire to keep him at Old Trafford for another campaign - his 12th at the club.
Carrick made 38 appearances this season - only eight of which were as a substitute - with 23 starts in the Premier League and Giggs, who played for United until he was 40, believes his former team-mate's experience will be vital in the coming 12 months.

Juventus, Buffon:"I'll have one last chance for the Champions League next season"

"
This was a great chance that we had earned and deserved: we took advantage of it only for a half hour, and then we feel short. The truth is we are still missing something. Something that in matches like these puts us on same level of others" This is how Gigi Buffon described the Champions League final in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport:"After we made it to the final we thought we were on same level. We didn't think we'd win but we thought we were on their level. Instead the sensations in the second half leaves regret because when a team crushes you like that it means there is a different level. Real Madrid proved they were stronger and they deserved to win, we certainly could have done better. As far as I'm concerned next season there's one last chance. I still have a year on my contract, we are in the Champione and we'll go for it"

Stop the organized Pogrom in Benue State, Fayose urges FG
kdebo.logspot.com
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has asked President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government to stop the menace of Fulani herdsmen in the country, especially in Benue State

The governor said that what is going on in Benue is more of an organised pogrom and those responsible for the killings must be arrested and prosecuted.

Fayose said that the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, should be allowed to function as President to be able to deploy instruments of the Federal Government to tackle the herdsmen’s menace, pointing out that; “as it is today, it appears that the Prof. Osinbajo does not have the full powers of the President.”

In a statement issued at the weekend by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose, who supported the new law prohibiting open grazing in Benue State, said that “those opposed to the law are doing so as part of their plot to undermine the land and people of Benue State and they must be made to face the law.”

He sympathised with the government and people of Benue State, adding that the Federal Government must stop playing ostrich to the menace of the Fulani herdsmen.

Governor Fayose said: “Like I have maintained, cattle farming is not different from fish farming, snake farming, poultry farming, snail farming, etc. Therefore, if fish farmers are providing their own ponds and poultry farmers building their own pens, while also buying feeds for their animals, there is no reason cattle farmers should not also provide their own ranch and feed their cows without encroaching on other people’s farmlands.

“How can Nigerians embrace farming when those already in the farms are losing billions of naira worth of crops to destruction of their farmlands by the Fulani herdsmen and the Federal Government is not doing anything about it?”

He described the Buhari-led government’s continuous silence on the alleged killing of harmless Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen as unacceptable.

The governor said; “In May, 2016, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria boldly told Nigerians that herdsmen killed over 1,000 Agatu people of Benue State then because over 800 of their cows were killed by Tiv youths. The man who openly made that comment was never questioned by the security agents.

“The same Miyetti Allah is now against the Anti-Open Grazing Law in Benue State, vowing to mobilise its members to resist the law and claiming that pastoralists like other citizens of the country have the right to move freely and to reside in any part of the country.

Lagos Govt to Train 1000 Facilitators as it Targets 95% Literacy Level

Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos
The Lagos State Government, through the Agency for Mass Education, on Sunday announced plans to commence training of 1000 facilitators for its adult literacy programme called “Eko Nke Koo” (Lagos is Learning).
The Special Adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Education, Obafela Bank-Olemoh, said in a statement in Lagos that this was aimed at equipping facilitators with the necessary skills required to train adults.
He said that the first batch of 250 new facilitators would be trained in January and another set of 250 in February, while the remaining 500 would be trained in March.
“The Eko Nke Koo (Lagos is Learning) project was launched in 2016 as part of the commitment of Gov. Ambode’s administration to increase the state literacy level from 87 per cent to 95 per cent by 2019,” he said.
Bank-Olemoh said the training and capacity development remained a very integral part of the programme, adding that government was committed to the success of the initiative.
He said that the state government, to achieve the set goals of increasing access for adult learners and growing the retention rates, initiated partnerships with religious organisations, NGOs, as well as market and mechanic associations.
The Special Adviser said the state was partnering the private sector in a bid to scale up the number of literacy centres across the state from the current 532 centres to 1000 in 2017.
He said that identified organisations had expressed commitment to join hands with the state by providing spaces in markets, mechanic villages and religious centres for the tutelage of adult learners.
