Great fashion doesn't only occur on the catwalks, oh no! New York Fashion Week brings all sorts of imaginative and stylish fashionistas out of the woodwork, all eager to stay up-to-date with the latest trends.
And this year we sent our roving street style reporter Alexandra Haddow to hunt down the very best looks on Manhattan's pavements.
From colourful, cosy fur coats to simple, smart looks, we've picked out some serious fashion to inspire your winter wardrobe.

Who says prints are on their way out? This statement coat from Zara looks fresh with a zing of neon thrown in on top of a chic blouse and skirt.
 

 
Simplicity is the key to this ensemble looking so chic – slouchy black dress trousers and a block coloured coat is all that's required. The new smart casual is smart.
 

 
On paper this shouldn’t work – metallics, prints, ski shades – but it absolutely does. The Alice Dellal hair looks brilliant with the eccentricity of it all and we love that her bag is a leather satchel – the last thing you would expect.
 

 
Another satchel, this time one you might see a Wall Street banker carrying, but teamed with a statement fur coat and a flash of colour in the shoes it makes for a great combination. And don't get us started on that amazing hair.
 


If Prada taught us anything last season it’s that coloured fur is the hottest statement piece you can own right now. The brighter the better.



Black will never go out of style but these ladies show us how to do it to suit your own unique taste. Varying the textures, such as the leather on fur or knitwear seen here, will ensure your look is current.



We love androgynous looks and this beats them all. We can’t help but wonder whether or not we could pull off that hair...



This is a great example of having fun with your look while still looking high end. The layering of cold colours somehow creates a vibrancy and the slogan sweatshirt adds a playfulness to the look.

Fashion editor Natalie Hartley wears a hint of military in her outfit and makes a backpack look like the most stylish one we think we’ve ever seen. The flash of orange eye shadow sets off the grey palette perfectly.
