A federal high court in Ibadan on Wednesday sentenced a drug dealer, Fatai Raimi, to 15 years of imprisonment for abetting five youths in the sale of Indian hemp.

Justice Abimbola Obaseki-Adejumo convicted Raimi, following his guilty plea to the charge of abetting five youths in dealing Indian hemp.

"Raimi’s attitude is capable of ruining the lives of Nigerian youths as he has done to some youths now," Obaseki-Adejumo said.

She said that Raimi's conviction and sentence would deter others who might be engaged in such unscrupulous activities.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had stated in the charge sheet that the defendant abetted five youths to deal in Indian hemp.

It named the youths as Kazeem Fatai, Tunde Aroka, Saheed Olaiya, Isiaka Sheriff and Lukman Ashiru.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the five youths, whose ages range from 19 to 25 years, had earlier been sentenced to jail by the same court.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Ayokunle Morakinyo, had told the court that Raimi was arrested on 24 June, at Born-photo area of Ibadan.

He said that the convict operated an Indian hemp joint where he paid the five boys stipends to cut and wrap the weeds for patrons.
