Arsenal's hopes of ever re-signing Cesc Fabregas appear to have ended after the midfielder stated it would be "a dream come true" to eventually retire at Barcelona.

The Spain international spent eight years with the Gunners after being snapped up from Barca's youth academy by Arsene Wenger in 2003, going on to cement his place as one of the club's most-loved performers, while also being named club captain.

The playmaker eventually returned to the Nou Camp in 2011 though, where he has since helped the side to Primera Liga and Copa del Rey titles, although a return to north London had previously not been written off by the 26-year-old, who still claims to have a special place in his heart for the Arsenal.

However, the Spaniard has now revealed that, should he have it his way, he would remain with the Catalan giants until the end of the playing career, posting on his Facebook page: "It would be a dream come true to retire with Barca.

"I will continue to work very hard to make that happen.
"Playing here is a dream and means everything to me because I have always been a huge fan."
