The Brazil international last just 22 minutes of the cup clash before rolling his ankle and needing to be replaced, with club officials initially suggesting he had sprained his peroneal tendon.
However, further tests will be conducted this weekend, although the playmaker is expected to be up for up to four weeks, meaning he would miss the crunch Champions League last-16 clash against Manchester City.
Barca manager Gerardo Martino said: "The situation didn't look good when you saw it happen and you thought he might be out for a while but thank God it is not as serious as it appeared and he'll be back playing soon.
"The doctors after the game have said it is not so bad and so if tests confirm it then it is not something serious."
